Pantone’s Fall 2014 color palette is full of rich, gorgeous hues to add a bit of spice to your interior design for the season. Join us as we explore some of the bold palettes you can create to complement the existing decor in your home and share a few tips on how you can get the look.

This year, Pantone’s fall color palette offers a range of contemporary jewel tones: Sangria and Aurora Red, Cognac, Royal Blue and Bright Cobalt, Cypress, and Aluminum, a nod to the greige trend. The collection also includes some less conventional hues that are perfect for adding an energetic pop of color, like Radiant Orchid, Mauve Mist, and Misted Yellow.

Cognac pillows and a warm leather ottoman lend an air of masculinity while the pale blue sofa and a cozy throw in Bright Cobalt keep the space feeling light and fresh. The yellow shade of the overhead light fixture provides a soft glow and balances out the blues.

Having a neutral foundation to the room is a great benefit as the seasons change, allowing you to rotate out pillows and accessories to create a completely fresh look. Above, a seating area full of warm neutrals gets some sass with pops of Bright Cobalt and Radiant Orchid brought in through throw pillows, floral arrangements, and accent furnishings like the chair and side table.

Throw pillows and blankets also come in handy for fall bedrooms, making them warm and welcoming on those chilly nights. Note that the room above includes lots of tactile, textural elements, from the nubby suzani blanket to the tassels on the pillow. Aurora Red adds warmth to the space, and the pops of blue keep it interesting.

Gray continues to dominate the interior design landscape as a popular neutral, but using gray hues like Aluminum extensively can feel gloomy during the winter months. Misted Yellow accents like throw pillows, candles, a glass bowl, and artwork as shown above add little pops of sunshine into the space.

So how can you work these colors into your home? It’s all about accessories:

  • Throw pillows
  • Blankets
  • Art objects
  • Candles
  • Floral arrangements
  • Accent rugs
  • Occasional pieces like garden stools, cocktail tables, accent chairs, and ottomans

Sometimes all a room needs is a new window treatment, a few custom pillows, or the right rug to tie it all together and add a breath of fresh air.
