2015 is here, and with it, a new batch of color trends to inspire your interior design!

Color of the Year 2015

Pantone is often regarded as the industry leader in color trend prediction, and this year they have yet again chosen a dramatic hue which will no doubt take the interior design world by storm. 2015’s Color of the Year is Marsala, an earthy red with brown undertones, evoking the rich colors of a glass of red wine or the jewel-like seeds of a pomegranate.

Pantone Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman describes it as “nurturing and fulfilling… a natural fit for the kitchen and dining room- making it ideal for tabletop, small appliances and linens throughout the home.”

On the other hand, Benjamin Moore’s color of the year could not be more different from Marsala. Guilford Green is a light, fresh silvery green, perfect for creating a sense of restful well-being throughout a home. Benjamin Moore Creative Director Ellen O’Neill describes it as “A neutral that’s natural.”
Which of these color trends do you prefer? One delivers the drama, the other encourages peaceful relaxation.

How to incorporate color trends in your home

Of course, most of us are not going to run out and redecorate our homes according to the year’s color trends, so what exactly are you supposed to do with this information? Obviously you should never feel the need to participate in a trend just because it’s trendy; however if you love one of these stylish hues and want to find a way to include it in your home, these are some ideas to help you do so.
  • Textiles– A few throw pillows on the sofa or a cozy blanket draped across the foot of the bed can not only incorporate a color trend into the space, but also provide extra comfort during these cold winter months.
  • Occasional furniture– A pouf, garden stool, or side chair in a bold hue can help you inject new life into a space.
  • Tabletop– Marsala is especially well-suited to the kitchen and dining room, so channel this rich, culinary color into your table settings through the linens (napkins, table runner) or by adding a few beautiful serving bowls or platters.
The easiest way to incorporate a new color into your decor is always as an accent, but if you really love it, consider using the hue to anchor the room with a rug or to create a dramatic background through your wall color.
