Of the many interior design trends our principal designer Michelle Nettles scoped out at this year’s Spring High Point Market, one of our favorites is perfectly suited to coastal interior design. The trend in question: Rustic, bleached, and weathered woods!

From driftwood and reclaimed wood to pickled or whitewashed finishes, this furnishing trend adds a fantastic kick of contrast to rooms with painted or stained wood furniture. Even better, this is one interior design idea that almost anyone can incorporate into their decor in some way, whether your home is formal and traditional or casual and contemporary.

Driftwood furnishings- literally constructed out of sticks and branches- are perfect as accent pieces. The table above adds so much texture and movement to the space, and paired with a large, dramatic painting it makes the perfect focal point. Use this look as an accent in the form of a side table, console table, or even a lamp or light fixture to add some organic visual appeal to your interior design.

These branch light fixtures are a fun and striking take on the trend. Also note the pale, pickled finish table and the heavily distressed sideboard in the background.

For maximum visual impact, pair your weathered or driftwood accent piece with a shiny metallic element as with the tray above for a nice contrast between rough and shiny.
